Arizona suspends Turf Paradise’s permit due to lack of staff to support pari-mutuel betting

Arizona regulators have suspended Turf Paradise’s teletrack permit, citing blocked property access and insufficient staff to support authorized pari-mutuel wagering.

The Arizona Department of Gaming said its Division of Racing suspended the teletrack permit of Skyfall 7, LLC, doing business as Turf Paradise Racecourse, effective 16 October. The department cited a lack of property access and necessary personnel to support authorized pari-mutuel wagering operations.

According to the department, those restrictions kept racing participants from the facility, interrupted scheduled live horse racing and affected staff and operations needed for pari-mutuel wagering at Turf Paradise and off-track betting locations.

Shannon Nelson, director of racing for the Division of Racing, said protecting the wagering public and maintaining the integrity of Arizona racing are core regulatory duties. She noted the circumstances involve a private business dispute, but said the department must act when operational requirements for authorized wagering are not met. The public notice also addresses the status of commercial racing and teletrack permits, the action and guidance for affected customers and industry stakeholders. The department said it continues to monitor operations with the Arizona Racing Commission.
