Brazilian industry bodies seek suspension of betting ban pending public hearing
Brazil's ANJL and IBJR have asked the Supreme Federal Court to suspend a betting ban until a public hearing, with an alternative transition through 31 December.

Brazil's National Association of Games and Lotteries and the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming asked the Supreme Federal Court on 6 October to suspend Provisional Measure 1,394/2026 until a public hearing. In a petition to Justice Luiz Fux under ADI 7721, they sought to let authorised operators resume deposits and wagers.
They argued that holding the hearing after authorisations were revoked and players dispersed would amount to debating a fait accompli. Alternatively, they want licensed operations to continue until 11.59pm on 31 December, with the measure's deadlines starting at 12.01am on 1 January 2027.
The Attorney General's Office requested another hearing on updated evidence but opposed suspension, asking Fux to await the Prosecutor General's Office. The petition also seeks restored platform access and licensed transactions during any suspension. It says deposits and wagers were banned after publication on 25 September, licensed platforms went offline on 6 October, and federal authorisations are due to expire on 25 October. It adds that 83 companies paid BRL2.55 billion for 85 five-year authorisations between January 2025 and March 2026 that would end without reimbursement.
