Buenos Aires online betting bill awaits committee support
A Buenos Aires province bill to tighten online betting rules remains in committee, with supporters still short of signatures needed to advance it as lawmakers negotiate possible amendments.

A Buenos Aires province bill to tighten online gambling controls remains in committee, with supporters short of signatures to advance it. Bill D-3634/26-27, promoted by deputies Facundo Tignanelli and Micaela Olivetto, has been referred to gambling, general legislation, and budget committees. On 14 October, Olivetto sought a comprehensive response to addiction, debt and mental health harm. A joint committee session is planned for 19 October, with lottery regulator Gonzalo Atanasof invited, before a possible lower-house session on 20 October. Opposition amendments leave the text uncertain.
The 64-article proposal would require facial verification at key account stages, compulsory breaks between gambling sessions, advertising and promotion restrictions, and stronger enforcement against illegal operators. Operators would also have to match advertising and customer-acquisition spending with contributions to a gambling-harm prevention and treatment fund.
A separate initiative from deputy Viviana Guzzo would bar people on the province's child support debtors register from authorised online gambling, including opening or maintaining accounts, depositing money and betting, and would apply to those jointly liable. It would amend provincial Laws 15,079 and 13,074. Neither proposal has been enacted.
