Peninsula Pacific Entertainment has confirmed that Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center will open its gaming floor in Iowa on November 19, six weeks earlier than planned. The project had been scheduled to open on December 31. P2E describes the $275m development as the largest gaming project in Iowa history, featuring 700 slot machines and 22 table games. It is being built on the northwest side of Cedar Rapids at the former Cooper’s Mill site. The company plans a December 5 grand opening with a sold-out Old Dominion concert. A market study commissioned by P2E and conducted by Convergence Strategy Group forecasts $80.2m in new state revenue. The property will also include a 1,500-capacity entertainment venue, an Arts & Cultural Center and a STEM lab. P2E’s Jonathan Swain said the casino would be a transformative addition and a major source of new revenue. Developers are incorporating floodplain reinforcements at the flood-prone site.
