Argentina’s securities chief says prediction market approach remains undecided
Argentina’s securities regulator has not decided how to treat prediction markets, with jurisdiction and a possible financial-market framework still unresolved, its president said.

Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV) has not decided how to approach prediction markets, president Roberto Silva said. Authorities must first establish whether the CNV has jurisdiction. Silva said a financial-market approach would be conditional and would probably exclude minors, sports and other events. No framework was adopted and no timetable was reported.
Buenos Aires City’s judiciary ordered Polymarket blocked in March after an investigation into operation without gambling authorisation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office said Court No. 31, headed by Judge Susana Parada, issued the order. The probe followed a complaint from the Buenos Aires City Lottery and was led by gambling prosecutor Juan Rozas, who described the platform as unauthorised online betting presented as a prediction market.
Investigators cited a lack of identity and age verification. The court ordered Google and Apple to remove and restrict access to Polymarket’s apps nationwide, including for registered users. The Association of State Lotteries of Argentina confirmed Polymarket held no authorisation in any Argentine jurisdiction, the prosecutor’s office said. Silva’s comments left open whether contracts could receive different treatment.
