Lotería del Chubut tenders Esquel’s casino with a reinstatement clause
Lotería del Chubut has tendered Esquel’s casino and annex gaming room, with terms requiring gradual rehiring of about 50 dismissed workers.

Lotería del Chubut is tendering Esquel’s casino and annex gaming room. Articles 14 and 14 bis require gradual rehiring of about 50 workers left jobless when Trewelyn S.A. closed the Casino de Esquel on March 25, 2026, without notice.
Lotería president Ramiro Ibarra said no Trewelyn proposal would be accepted, noting it paid the Puerto Madryn licence fee but not Esquel’s. Mayor Matías Taccetta pushed for the rehiring clause, and Ibarra said hiring would follow the venue’s operational needs.
The former premises belong to Trewelyn and have been embargoed by workers over severance claims, complicating reuse. Spokesman Sebastián Pérez Rienzi said securing a venue would take at least a year; Ibarra had earlier estimated six months. On October 6, a ruling ordered Trewelyn to pay March salaries with interest to 36 workers represented by the Sindicato de Empleados de Comercio, with no further appeal. Workers say they have not received cash.
